Steelers Ticket Prices To Go Up For 2012

For the fifth time in eight seasons the cost of a Pittsburgh Steeler ticket will go up. According to reports from Pittsburgh Tribune-Review the cost of a ticket could go from in 2011 to 0 in 2012.  According to the report, specific details of the increase were unknown. But a letter to season-ticket holders, the Steelers explained the increase by stating that it was done to “meet the challenges of remaining competitive in the National Football League”.

The Steelers did not raise ticket prices last year. The team has had a tough offseason cutting fan favorite veteran players Hines Ward, Aaron Smith, James Farrior, and Chris Kemoeatu. The Steelers have also reworked the contracts of many players to get under the salary cap. The cost of the tickets going up will help the team pay for the bonuses in all the new contracts. But cost of the tickets will be forgotten if the Steelers continue to win.

Steelers Redo Deal for LB Lawrence Timmons to Save Salary Cap Space

Another Steelers linebacker has had his contract restructured to clear up cap space.

Just a few days after it was announced that LaMarr Woodley had his deal redone, it’s being reported that LB Lawrence Timmons’ contract has also been restructured to give the Steelers salary cap space.

The new deal for Timmons frees up .14 million in space on their 2012 salary cap.

Signed to a five-year, .8 million contract extension in August, Timmons was scheduled to earn .625 million in base salary and a .5 million roster bonus, which was due on the fifth day of the 2012 league year, for a 2012 cap number of .125 million.

According to a league source, earlier this week, Timmons signed a restructured contract that reduced his 2012 base salary to 0,000, with the Steelers combining the .925 million in base salary and .5 million roster bonus into a .425 million signing bonus that will be prorated from 2012 through the 2016 season at .285 million annually.

The restructure reduces Timmons’ 2012 cap number to .985 million, a a cap savings of .14 million.

Steelers QB Roethlisberger Not Happy the Way Bruce Arians Situation Went Down

In just reading the comments from Steelers franchise QB Ben Roethlisberger, it sounds like he’s not all that happy with the teams dismissal of his friend and offensive coordinator Bruce Arians.

Roethlisberger wants answers, and says he will look for and try to talk to team president Art Rooney II when he returns to Pittsburgh. Big Ben is currently in Hawaii getting ready for the Pro Bowl on Sunday.

“When I get back I’m going to go up to Mr. Rooney’s office and ask him what he wants from me, what he wants from this offense, because I think that’s a viable question for him,” Roethlisberger said Thursday in an exclusive interview with the Tribune-Review following a light Pro Bowl practice. “He’s our owner and our boss, so I really would like to know kind of what he wants and where he sees our offense going because I’d like to tell him where I see us going.”

Steelers Center Pouncey Sends a Tweet He Probably Regrets

/a>

Seems that one of the Steelers better young players used some ‘not so good’ judgement following the game last night. At least that’s the opinion of this writer. Center Maurkice Pouncey, who missed the game with an ankle injury, sent out the following Tweet following the game last night. Note the Tweet has been cleaned up due it’s profanity.

Go f*&k wit my nigga @YoGottiKOM and Pre-Order #LiveFromDaKitchen From iTunes http://itunes.apple.com/us/preorder/live-from-the-kitchen/id489929216

Seriously?

While Steeler Nation is looking to recover, and other players are saying they are sorry for the loss, Pouncey decided to Tweet about some rapper who has a new album coming out on ITunes. Not only that, he dropped an F-bomb as well.

Really?

Don’t think Pouncey got away easy with the Tweet, as a number of people, most who appeared to be Steeler fans, jumped on the Pro Bowl center for the Tweet:

As you can see by the next response, fellow Flordia grad and Steelers rookie tackle Marcus Gilbert also must have tweeted the same type of thing:

Pouncey actually responded to this one:

Nice.

Listen, I get it – it’s a long season and emotions run high. I guess I just wish sometimes these guys would think before tweeting. To his credit, Pouncey did say the following on Twitter today:

Maybe next time, he’ll thinks before he Tweets.

Steelers QB Roethlisberger Set to Start in San Francisco Monday Night

The Steelers Man of Steel is at it again, as it sounds more and more like quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will go against the Niners tonight against the 49ers.

Gerry Dulac of the Post-Gazette is reporting that the decision to start Big Ben was made after he showed enough in practice Saturday to get out there and play with his high ankle sprain.

The decision had nothing to do with the Ravens choke job in San Diego which now determines that if the Steelers can win their last three games, they will clinch home-field in the postseason in the AFC.

Roehtlisberger has a Grade 1 ankle sprain and didn’t practice all week until Saturday, and even then on a limited basis, but he will be in the lineup with Charlie Batch on standby as the backup if Roehtlisberger at somepoint goes down during the contest.

Steelers OT Willie Colon Could Be Out with Serious Arm Injury

The Steelers are licking their wounds after Sunday’s somewhat stunning loss in Baltimore. Not only were they beat up on the field, but it appears they suffered a rather big injury off it. Breaking Down the 2011 Steelers Regular Season Schedule

Well, the NFL is still in lockout mode, but Tuesday night the league still went ahead and got fans excited with the annual release of the schedule. The Steelers are going to be in the prime-time spotlight quite a bit, as they will play five games at night, including three in four weeks starting with a game at the Chiefs on December 4th, and then ending at San Francisco on December 19th.

Here’s a quick rundown the schedule with some notes on the games as well.

Sunday, Sept. 11 at Baltimore – Need we say more to start the year? Always a huge game, and last year it came down to a last second play by Troy Polamalu to strip Joe Flacco and then Issac Redman’s third-down TD won the game. A blood bath that could set the tone for the AFC North early in the year. Started the 1998 season at Baltimore, winning 20-13 in a season that ended 7-9 under Bill Cowher.

Sunday, Sept. 18 SEATTLE – A Super Bowl XL rematch, and the second straight time the Hawks come to Heinz Field since the SB in Detroit back in February of 2006. The last time they played in Pittsburgh, the Steelers beat up the Hawks to the tune of 21-0 on October 7th 2007 in Mike Tomlin’s first season. Seattle won the NFC West a season ago, but won it with a mark of 7-9.

Sunday, Sept. 25 at Indianapolis – The Steelers first prime-time showdown of 2011, an 8:20 Sunday night game on NBC vs Peyton Manning and the Colts. They haven’t played since the Super Bowl season of 2008 when Manning outshined Ben Roethlisberger for a win at Heinz Field. They haven’t played in Indy since that fateful playoff game in 2006 when the Steelers upset them 21-18 enroute to Super Bowl XL. The Steelers have never played in new Lucas Oil Stadium.

Sunday, Oct. 2 at Houston – The Texans are a team that will be hailed as an up and coming squad in 2011, and the Steelers defense will be tested against Matt Schaub, Andre Johnson and Arian Foster. The Steelers opened the 2008 season vs Houston at home pounding them 38-17, and the last time they played in the Lone Star State was in week two of the 2005 season, and again it was all Steelers winning easily 27-7.

From Out of ‘Nowhere,’ Antonio Brown Becoming a Steelers Star

Antonio BrownDALLAS — He cringes when people say he came from nowhere to Super Bowl XLV. Sure, Antonio Brown came from somewhere. A place he calls home that some would call horror.

He comes from being ignored at different football stops to this circus stage where he has been swarmed.

He wears No. 84, this Pittsburgh Steelers rookie receiver, small in size but huge in stride. His game is a blink, a blur. His first NFL touch was a game-opening, reverse kickoff, 89-yard touchdown at the Tennessee Titans in Week 2. He outran at least three Titans down the sideline — each with an angled shot; each unable to collar him.

First touch — to the house.

That will earn you the nickname “Cash Money,” like his Steelers teammates call him. He makes things look so easy, they say. He is a rookie now, but this 22-year-old player will be “paid” one day, they claim.

Cash Money.
